Many of you will spend Thanksgiving Day with family and friends or you may be someone's guest. Whether you'll be participating in some of the cooking or entertaining your own guests this year, let's get this holiday started early and finish strong!!!
While there is plenty of time, firm up your holiday plans. Figure out where and when and then how you will accomplish the things that need to be done. Here is my list of Thanksgiving pre-planning.
1. Begin to invite guests and determine how many guests you will have.
2. Decide on china, glassware, table linens. If you need to get that tablecloth cleaned or pressed...today's the day!
3. Think about a centerpiece; make one or order flowers.
4. Clean and organize your kitchen and dining area. Create a plan for serving your guests. Clean out your pantry and fridge and freezer to make room for the food you plan to purchase.
5. Start to put together a menu and gather recipes, traditional recipes as well as one new recipe. Be sure to begin your shopping list (on Mealessence.com of course). 6. Most important of all, decide what you will wear on Thanksgiving Day. The hostess doesn't have to look like she's been cooking all day!!! Buy something new or at least make sure something is clean and ready to slip on before your guests arrive.
These are small items to consider but they are also the ones we put off until the last minute. How many times have I run to the grocery store on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and seen many women who had just begun to think about their Thanksgiving dinner the next day. Just thinking of what they have to accomplish in 24 hours just wears me out...I always say a prayer for those girls. This year let’s just decide ahead of time that we will be prepared and ENJOY the day. Be thankful for the work you don't have to do the morning of Thanksgiving.
Next time we'll talk about the items that you can freeze ahead so you don't have to work so hard the day of.
