Macaroni and Cheese can be served as an entrée and served with a salad for dinner.  It is full of protein and carbs and when served as the main course really isn’t that high in fat.

Macaroni and Cheese is as American as Apple Pie.   While it has been around for almost two centuries, it did not become a staple in American households until 1937 when Kraft introduced a boxed version for 19 cents.  Although the price has increased since then it remains a great value and a very inexpensive meal.   I read that last year sales at Kraft rose significantly and I had to wonder if it was related to the economy.

Well, Kraft’s Macaroni and Cheese is definitely the least expensive and perhaps the quickest choice for Macaroni and Cheese, but I would like to recommend a few MealEssence.com recipes and hope you will try one of them for your family dinner this week.   I tried the  Traditional Macaroni and Cheese recipe - it was hard to beat.  MealEssence also has a healthier twist on this American favorite called Cauliflower Macaroni and Cheese.

There are many ways to eat this American favorite and I love to dice fresh tomatoes into mine.  Some people add meat or even sliced hotdogs.  Children, who may be picky eaters, can be coaxed into eating vegetables when added to this cheesy dish as well.  While broccoli would be my first choice peas, carrots, or cauliflower are just as tasty.

Try it, you may find a family favorite while saving money at the grocery this week!  This is the Traditional Macaroni and Cheese recipe above.  It was delicious and the perfect comfort food for a cold night in January!
